Sermon Title:             A Blessing for Others

Sermon Theme: As our lives continue we also continue our journey of faith.  We follow in the footsteps of those who have gone before us and in doing so we share in the blessings they have received. We hear about the promises made to Abraham during Lent because they still hold true for us.  We are blessed by God and because of this we become a blessing.

But this passage also reminds us that we may be called to turn away from the comfortable and journey into what is new and frightening.  Themes of renunciation and departure are a part of Lent.  Jesus said, “For whoever would save his life will lose it; and whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel’s, will save it.”  This call permits us to move out of a life of barrenness and into the hope and peace that can only be found through trust in God.
