Who we are
What we believe
Like Huntsville, the Disciples of Christ are a melting pot of many faith traditions. We honor all faith traditions and seek to work with other Christians to live in the Kingdom of God.
We are a mainline Protestant denomination (similar to Methodists and Presbyterians) with more than 800,000 members in the United States and Canada. We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. We believe the Bible is God’s word, and we give each person the freedom to responsibly interpret the Bible for themselves. We celebrate communion weekly, and each church is autonomously governed (no one “higher up” tells us what to do except God!). For more information on the denomination you can visit, disciples.org.
We celebrate weekly Communion at the Lord’s Table. And since it is the Lord’s Table, God invites all people to join in the feast.

What to expect
Who goes to our church?
You will find free-thinking, spirit-driven individuals and families who welcome people of all denominations and faith traditions.
Do you have child care during the services?
Yes, for children under the age of 3 during the 8:15 and 10:30 services. For the safety of our children, a greeter at the front door of the church will help you find the nurseries. Children 3 and older are welcomed into the sanctuary for Children’s Moment during the l0:30 service, then excused for Worship and Wonder or Young Disciples.
Can a visitor take communion?
Yes! We take communion each week as a tangible reminder of God’s gift to us in Jesus Christ. We believe in open communion – anyone who believes in Jesus Christ is welcome to take communion, whether they are a church member or not.
Do I have to belong to your denomination to attend?
No. Many in our congregation come from differing church backgrounds.
Do you have to dress up to attend your worship services?
No! Dressing up is not a requirement to worship with us at First Christian Church.
What is the difference between the casual worship service and traditional worship service?
The casual worship service is more musically-oriented and the sermon is shorter in length.
