Overview

The more I think about Jesus the more I am drawn to the unorthodox nature of his ministry. From birth in a cow barn until his death on a crude cross out by a city dump, Jesus never fit the mold of conforming to a particular pattern and never lived up to the exceptions of the religious establishment. Then he says, “I am come to send fire on the earth: and how I wish it were already kindled.”

Kindle a fire on earth? Literally? What might that mean? Fire in the Bible often mean judgment. It can also be a metaphor for burning with desire, consumed with passion, ignited to do God’s will. Jesus said, “I have come to send fire …” so let the church burn … let it burn with this God given desire, passion, and justice for all of creation. Help me set this church on fire!
