Sermon:                      The Promises of God

Sermon Theme:         The simplicity of this story reminds us of the nature of the power of God for it is shown clearly in the extraordinary but also in the ordinary.  God uses an insignificant young girl to carry the Christ child.  God’s son is not born into a ruling family; rather he is born in a stable to a poor carpenter far from home.  In Luke’s gospel there were no Kings waiting to pay this child homage.  Only Mary and Joseph were there to understand that the promises of God were kept through the birth of a small child.
