Get Connected

Grow your faith and relationships beyond just Sunday morning worship with First Christian Church’s All Church Ministries. There are may opportunities throughout the week and on the weekends.

World Outreach

Week-of-Compassion
World outreach encompasses all our giving that supports ministries outside our local community. We have tithed our church budget along with supporting six special offerings each year. These support our foreign missionaries, regional (alnwfldisciples.org) and general church (disciples.org) ministries, church affiliated colleges, universities and seminaries, and our disaster, refugee, and development fund (weekofcompassion.org). Explore the regional and general Disciples sites for more details.

Community Outreach

Community Outreach

Do you have a desire to serve God by serving the community? Join us at First Christian as we help feed and house the homeless and the unfortunate through many local agencies. With God’s grace children are provided with needed school supplies and clothing through our various drives. We enjoy serving in the field and by giving monies and items to those in need. You will find a place to serve on this committee that will fill your desire to help others. Community Outreach, the longest standing committee at FCC, meets each third Wednesday in the First Christian Church Parlor at 6 pm. Everyone is invited.

Homeless Ministries/Grateful Life

Grateful-Life
Each fifth Sunday is an opportunity to provide breakfast and lunch to those 75-100 who gather for worship at Grateful Life Christian Church on Oakwood Avenue.  A sign-up sheet is sent via e-mail or by phone to those willing to provide breakfast or lunch items which are then delivered to FCC by 9:15 on the date of the visit.  Anyone is welcome to deliver, serve breakfast, pack lunches, and worship with Grateful Life.

Salvation Army Soup Van

Salvation-Soup-Van
Every third Tuesday FCC provides a driver and crew of 2 or 3 people to transport meals on the Salvation Army Soup Van to three stops to serve homeless and low income individuals and families.  The crew meets at 5:15 and finishes serving by 7:00pm. A volunteer sign-up sheet is located on the Community Outreach bulletin board outside Family Services Room.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat2016Mar1a croppedOur church has worked with several other churches to build 24 homes in Huntsville since 1992. We work usually in the March to September time frame. Each house costs about $45,000 for the lot and materials, with most of the labor provided free by church volunteers. The future homeowner must provide 350 hours of “sweat equity” to their home building project or to other Habitat volunteer work. It takes us about 12 weeks, working Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays to complete the home.

Church Greeters

If you love to smile and welcome, join us 15 minutes before either service in the narthex.  Greeters are a visitor’s first impression of the church.  All that is needed is a welcoming attitude and a willingness to serve.

Publicity Task Group

Publicity-Task-Force
Publicizing the grace, goodness, activities and special events of First Christian Church is exciting and rewarding.  It involves communicating both internally and outside the church through social and traditional media outlets.  Ideas for spreading the word about First Christian Church is encouraged.
