Overview

Jesus has a way of going from preaching to meddling when he tells the crowd in the Sermon on the Mount you have to be more righteous than the scribes and Pharisees. Who can do that? Those two groups more than any others painstakingly adhered to every ‘jot and tittle’ of the law. How’s that possible? It’s not possible without God’s help, thus the point of Jesus’ words here. You can do it with God’s help!

Jesus preaches some pretty harsh warnings to us about the consequences we face should we fail to practice righteousness within every aspect of our lives. Daily I have a choice with my kitchen trash to either throw it away or recycle it. I think Jesus is telling us to do the same with everything in our lives; get rid of it for goodness sake or recycle it to reform it for the better.
