Overview

The Sadducees did not believe in resurrection. They asked Jesus a resurrection question about whose wife a woman would be in heaven if all seven or so husbands died. Their question was not asked in love or to be informed, but to show up an itinerant Rabbi’s dull theology (or so they thought).

Jesus answers that God is not a God of the dead, but of the living and goes on to say we are not giving or receiving in marriage in heaven. That answer raises other questions. If the dead live to God what kind of life do the dead enjoy? What continuity exists between this life and the next? In the sermon I reason with the scriptures that tells us about an afterlife.
