Overview

The biblical writers had an experience of God that no word, image, or idea could adequately describe. The New Testament writers used three ways to understand the fullness of God: the Creator (Father), Redeemer (Jesus), and Holy Spirit. What matters more than words is knowing God from our heart, the center of our being.

In today’s gospel lesson, Jesus says to his disciples, “When the spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth” (John 16:13). The spirit of truth is the Holy Spirit that abides within us and guides us. The truth is God forgives, Jesus heals, and the Holy Spirit saves. Just keep seeking and your patience will be rewarded.
