Interim Senior Minister, Rev. Dr. Cameron Douglas’ message is, “What Was Jesus Thinking?” based on Luke 14:25-33
Overview
It is rather odd in our feel-good culture and society to hear Jesus say one must “hate” father and mother, hate your whole family in fact, and even hate yourself to be his disciple. Really we are to hate? Isn’t that rather contrary to the message of love in our Christian faith, and isn’t “hate” pretty strong language as in to hate your parents?
I will explore what Jesus was thinking when he said those things. Bottom line is the cost of discipleship is your life, your whole life, the focus of your very being. To accept the Kingdom of God is to deny yourself and living for God, doing God’s will, and bearing your cross.
