“What Are You Doing Here?”

Interim Senior Minister, Rev. Dr. Cameron Douglas’ message is, “What Are You Doing Here?” based on Luke 8:26-39

Overview

The 1 Kings text is about the prophet Elijah who becomes despondent. He goes and hides in a cave on Mount Horeb where God spoke to Moses. So God speaks to Elijah, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” God gave him victory over Baal and his prophets, and Elijah is God’s man, God’s champion, God’s ambassador, so what’s he doing hiding out in a mountain?

Then there is a series of spectacular events; a powerful wind, an earthquake, and a fire. God isn’t to be found in any of these things, but in a whisper, in a gentle breath that overcomes him; in a still, small voice. God is heard in the whispering voice of the faithful, dedicated, concerned Christians who stand for peace with justice, and mercy with judgment. We find God in the still, small voices of a loving Dad on this Father’s Day.
