Sermon:                      God Changed God’s Mind

Sermon Theme:  The story of Jonah is about a call to ministry.  The call of Jonah to be a prophet and to go to a place he did not want to go.  God’s call for Israel to reach out to its neighboring states with compassion and love instead of isolating itself.   We too may be asked to go beyond ourselves, to break our comfort levels, and reach out to those on the fringe of society. If you accept this call you may find yourself doing things you may never imagine and working for God and for others in a variety of different ways.

The story of Jonah is a reminder of our responsibilities to others, to the poor, to the unwanted, to the stranger, to the unwelcome, to those who are not like us.  They too can find repentance and the love of God, and when they receive this grace, we cannot turn away because they are beloved by God too.
