Sermon:                      The Gift or the Giver

Sermon Theme:         What is your most valuable possession in the world? Your family? Your spouse? Your children? Your job? Your house? Your talents?  Your money?  What is the thing you love the most? Could it be that we have become preoccupied with these possessions, that these gifts have become the center of our lives, and have replaced God?

We all have a tendency to become attached to those things we love here on earth because they provide security. We place our trust in people, homes, jobs, and churches, because they give us hope for the future.  This story is a powerful and painful reminder that all of these things will one day disappear. But when the dust settles God will still be, now and forever.  God is the one whom we should place our trust in, and God is the one who will ultimately give us the peace and hope that is the cornerstone of our lives.
