Sermon:                      Salt and Light

Sermon Theme:         If we are salt and light and if we are to be as informed as the scribes and the Pharisees then we have a lot of work to do, and the work begins with ourselves.  As we build our faith together, we are called to go out of our way to care, to share the Good New, to provide for others, to live out the law of love. The whole point of God’s Law is to urge us to put God and others first and to erase our selfishness.

Of course, the strength to live for God and for others does not come from only focusing on God’s commandments nor does it come from only following those that we like or are easy to accomplish.  Our strength comes from God and we worship here today to receive God’s Spirit, not as the righteous, but as those to whom mercy is continually given.
