Sermon Theme:  The story of John the Baptist points to the gap between our rhetoric and our behavior.  Like the prophets of old God used John’s voice to show us our sin and called us to bear fruit worthy of repentance.  Repentance is part of the Christian journey, and its part of our preparation for Christmas. God is coming and we must prepare ourselves, our family and our church. However, if we’re going to be honest this Advent season, we need to be honest about our eagerness to judge rather than to repent, our willingness to play the role of John pointing out the sin of the world without looking within.
