Sermon Theme:         We build alters to express our thanksgiving.  They are reminders of our dependence on God and our promise to live as chosen people confident that our creator will guide and protect us.  This may mean that we have to turn away from the comfortable and journey into what is new and frightening.  Themes of renunciation and departure are a part of our tradition.  Jesus said, “For whoever would save his life will lose it; and whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel’s, will save it.”  This call permits us to move out of a life of barrenness and a world governed by chaos and into the hope and peace that can only be found through faith.
