Sermon:                      Accepting the Invitation

Sermon Theme:         The Greek word for church “ekklesia” is defined as “a calling out.”  That as Christians we are “the called out ones.” In terms of Jesus’ parable, the church is a gathering of those who have been invited and responded to God’s invitation.  We are the ones that showed up, with our own strengths and faults, when we heard God’s call.

This also means we have accepted the responsibility of living out this call.  This does not have anything to do with how society measures success.  Living out our call has nothing to do with the kind of car we drive, the value of our possessions, or the cost of our clothing.  Our position at work, power in the community, and ability to impose our will are meaningless when it comes to faithfulness.  What matters is how we honor God, how we live our lives so that others will know we have humbly accepted the mantle of Christ.
