Sermon:                      An Attitude of Prayer

Sermon Theme:         The late Trappist monk Thomas Merton defined humility as, “being precisely the person you actually are in the presence of God.”  This means that the secret of humility is not to focus on behaving in a certain way, or doing what is expected of us, but to focus on the presence of God and knowing that God is always with us.  God also provides us with the gift of the church, a place where we can find welcome and love in the midst of our brokenness.  Our family of faith is the place where we can be ourselves.  We may disagree with one another, but because of our faith in, Christ we are made one and allowed to live in a spirit of prayer throughout our lives.  The church is the embodiment of the Kingdom of God because we are welcome and because we know that it is God who leads us forward.
