Youth are leaders in our congregation.

In keeping with the inclusionary reputation of the Disciples of Christ, our youth lead Sunday services, serve communion, and hold leadership positions in our congregation.

Sunday Morning Education

God has invited us to live an adventurous life of discovery, wonder, joy, and service. Our youth – divided into Chi Rho (6th – 8th grades) and Christian Youth Fellowship (9th – 12th grades) – meet in the youth suite above the church office from 9:15 am – 10:15 am for Sunday morning Christian education. The youth spend time learning to navigate the Bible, getting to know God through their studies, exploring God’s creation, discussing how faith and “real life” inform one another, and developing deep friendships.

Sunday Evening Ministries

From 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm each Sunday (with a few exceptions here and there) youth in 6th – 12th grades gather for a fellowship meal and Bible study, games, mission projects, or purely fun activities. Sunday evenings are led by Rev. Laura Stephens-Reed (Intentional Interim Associate Minister), parents, and other adults with a heart for youth. Friends and visitors are always welcome, but you might want to call ahead to make sure this Sunday isn’t one of those exceptions to the 5:00-7:00 pm schedule - we take a lot of field trips!

Youth Choir

Youth lift their voices to the glory of God on Sunday afternoons at 4:15 pm in the choir room, led by Becky Waters (Music Director).

Summer Activities

Youth participate in summer camps sponsored by the Alabama-Northwest Florida Region of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The youth also take a mission trip every year in which they form life-long friendships and share their personal relationship with Jesus with others in need. The youth grow in so many ways during these trips. Past missions have included trips to nursing homes, roofing projects in Florida, tornado recovery in Tuscaloosa, and work projects on the Yakama Indian Reservation and the Blue Ridge mountains. The mission trip is largely funded by the annual rummage sale, which takes place every first Friday and Saturday of March.
