“The Beggar at Our Gate”

Interim Senior Minister, Rev. Dr. Cameron Douglas’ message is, “The Beggar at Our Gate” based on Luke 16:19-31

Overview

The passage is the parable about the rich man and Lazarus. It is very easy to get off “target” about this parable. What is the point Jesus is trying to make? It is not, for example, that the rich are damned and the poor are glorified. The point is that if my money is spent on ME and my values, in disregard to God’s values and God’s priorities, there’s a problem. Money isn’t itself evil, but the lust for it can destroy life here and forever more. God sees money as a resource not an end in itself.

There are other lessons to be learned too. In summary our actions in this life have consequences in the afterlife. Be ready to live with the results of your actions both now and eternally.
