Overview

The Luke text is a parable about a scoundrel who got out of a fix he was in by manipulating the accounting books of his boss, not so unusual so far, but Jesus praises him for doing it! Was Jesus praising him for cheating? Manipulating the books? Taking from his boss? No, not at all.

This man was decisive and he finally decides to re-prioritize and take command of his life (and his money). He gives his all to serve his master and places his master’s priorities above his own. Jesus is saying the time has come for us to make an accounting for our lives and place our Master’s (God’s) priorities above our own. To do that is worthy of Jesus’ praise. The day has come.
